Sharjah, August 14 (WAM) - The Erthi Council for Contemporary Crafts concluded the first phase of its "Technology and Craft Lab" programme in cooperation with the Quarter Century Centre for Science and Technology. This three-phase programme combines digital documentation, material exploration, and experimental research to leverage technology to support traditional crafts and develop methods of documenting them.

The first phase focused on digital documentation at the Quarter Century Centre for Science and Technology. Participants learned about methods of documenting traditional crafts and local cultural knowledge, as well as exploring the role of technology, including stereoscopic imaging and 3D scanning techniques. The programme aims to empower young people with skills that combine preserving cultural heritage with stereoscopic imaging and 3D scanning technologies, contributing to enriching the archive of Emirati crafts.

Participants also reviewed the results of the first survey and developed working methods for more accurate digital documentation, which will help document traditional crafts and local artefacts.

"It demonstrates how technology can be an effective tool in preserving and documenting Emirati crafts using methods that meet the aspirations of younger generations. We believe that empowering young people to explore these technologies will strengthen their connection to cultural heritage and enhance its sustainability through innovative presentation."
