Spotify has started rolling out a new AI-powered feature today: an integrated conversational assistant that enables users to interact with the app either by voice or text, via their smartphones’ main pages and current playlists.

The feature allows for continuous conversation with the app, similar to AI-supported chatbots, without being limited to voice commands only; questions and requests can also be written.

Users can inquire about their favorite songs, review their listening history, learn more information about podcasts and audiobooks, or even request suggestions for artists they haven’t listened to before. The assistant also allows the playlists to be constantly improved based on the user's preferences during the conversation.

The assistant also supports executing a number of tasks, such as saving songs, adding them to the queue, and following artists, all by simply requesting it either by voice or text.

When playing a song, users can ask questions about it, such as the inspiration behind its lyrics, its musical genre, or when the album it belongs to was released. The assistant also provides additional information about the artists associated with it, along with details about characters, stories, and ideas related to podcasts and audiobooks.

In addition, the assistant can answer questions regarding the user's music taste and listening habits.

The feature is currently available in a test version in English for Spotify Premium subscribers who are over 18 years old, in the United States, Ireland and Sweden, on Android and iOS phones. The company has not yet revealed when it will be launched in other markets.
