Google is preparing to make a new change to the upcoming Pixel 11 phones. Recent leaks have revealed that the company intends to rename the Magic Cue feature, which first appeared with the Pixel 10 series, to Proactive Assistance. This change comes as part of Google's efforts to clarify the function of the feature and strengthen its association with the Gemini AI system.

Google introduced the Magic Cue feature at last year’s Made by Google conference as an AI-based tool that provides users with the information they need at the right moment, without the need for manual searching.

A feature that analyzes the Google Pixel screen

The feature relies on analyzing what appears on the phone's screen and utilizes data from some of Google’s applications such as Gmail, Google Messages, and Google Photos. All processing is done locally on the device using Gemini Nano, which maintains data privacy by not sending it to company servers.

Despite the potential promised by Google, the feature did not achieve the expected spread among Pixel 10 users. Many noted that they didn’t regularly notice its appearance, while others felt that the information displayed was not always relevant to what they were doing on the phone. Reports indicate that these observations led Google to modify how it works and make activation more selective.

According to leaks based on Google's Phone app experimental version 229, the new name Proactive Assistance will better reflect its proactive assistance concept, relying on three main sources of information: content displayed on the phone screen, notifications, and apps that users choose to link with the feature.

The feature will also provide broader integration with Google applications. It won't be limited to contacts, messages, Gmail, and calendar; it will also support Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Keep apps, offering users a smarter experience and quick access to important information.

Google is expected to officially unveil the Pixel 11 series during the Made by Google event on August 12, 2026. The company is anticipated to announce the new feature's name alongside other improvements aimed at making Pixel phones more capable of delivering a proactive AI-driven experience rather than simply responding to user commands.
