Global shipments of personal computers (PCs) declined by 4.9% in the second quarter of 2026, according to the latest report from IDC, marking the first decline in the market after nine consecutive quarters of growth. This downturn is attributed to the ongoing shortage of memory chips (RAM), coupled with global economic challenges and supply chain disruptions, which have impacted shipment volumes across various markets.

Apple Continues to Grow Despite Challenges

Despite the slowing PC market, Apple managed to achieve remarkable performance. Its shipments rose by 10.1% year-on-year, increasing its market share to 9.9% in the second quarter of 2026.

IDC’s report noted that this growth was supported by the launch of the MacBook Neo, which boosted the company's sales. Apple also managed to maintain its momentum in the market despite price increases, benefiting from strong demand for its devices compared to competitors facing similar production cost pressures.

Projections of Continued Pressures Until 2028

IDC predicts that the challenges faced by the PC market will continue in the coming period. It explained that the memory chip shortage crisis could persist until early 2028, which may lead to continued high prices for components and devices. The pace of market growth is expected to slow down in the second half of 2026, and manufacturers are likely to face ongoing pressures in the next year.
