Lenovo has updated another of its 16-inch gaming laptops by adding more technical configuration options. To recall, the company recently updated the Legion Pro 5 16AFR10 with a 12GB version of the mobile-optimized Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card. However, Lenovo did not provide any other upgrades for its AMD-based gaming laptop such as providing a faster processor.

In contrast, the Legion Pro 5i 16IAX10 quietly received two major and important upgrades. On one hand, the Legion Pro 5i 16IAX10 laptop joined its AMD-based counterpart in adopting the GeForce RTX 5070 12GB graphics card while maintaining an 80 Wh battery capacity and a stunning 240 Hz OLED display.

Based on the technical analysis, providing an additional 4GB of VRAM graphics memory will help the Legion Pro 5i in some operating scenarios. However, the latest GeForce RTX 5070 still has significantly fewer CUDA cores and lower memory bandwidth compared to the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti model, along with other differences between the two GPUs. Therefore, the current reviewed Legion Pro 5i 16IAX10H, which was tested over a year ago, still offers better performance and power than new configuration options equipped with the GeForce RTX 5070 12GB.

On the other hand, Lenovo has also added processor options including the Core Ultra 7 251HX and the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus from Intel’s latest Arrow Lake HX generation. According to performance tests, this new processor gives the Legion Pro 5i a CPU performance boost of up to about 7% compared to models equipped with the Core Ultra 9 275HX.

The official Lenovo product specifications website, known as PSREF, explains that the Core Ultra 7 251HX and also the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processors will be available with both the GeForce RTX 5060 8GB and GeForce RTX 5070 12GB graphics cards. At the same time, only the latter GPU paired with a 12GB memory can be configured with the updated Arrow Lake HX chip generation processors. Official prices and availability dates are still unknown, but PSREF confirms that a full-scale global launch is on the horizon to provide maximum efficiency.
