After years of criticism for its limited capabilities compared to competitors, Apple is preparing to launch a new version of Siri powered by artificial intelligence in the fall of 2026, coinciding with the release of iOS 27. The company showcased the upgraded version of Siri at the WWDC 2026 developer conference, confirming that it has become more capable of understanding complex requests and executing sequential commands in a smarter and more efficient way.

Devices That Will Get Siri AI

Siri AI will not reach all iPhone devices compatible with iOS 27. Apple confirmed that the new feature will be exclusive to devices supporting the Apple Intelligence ecosystem, which includes all iPhones released since the iPhone 15 Pro, including:
* iPhone 15 Pro
* iPhone 15 Pro Max
* All models of iPhone 16
* All models of iPhone 17
* iPhone Air

The update will also support iPad and Mac devices with Apple Silicon processors, as well as the iPad mini 2024. Users can check if their devices are eligible by going to Settings. If the "Apple Intelligence & Siri" section appears, it means that the device is qualified for the new intelligent assistant.

Initial release as a beta version

Despite the upcoming launch, Apple clarified that Siri AI will initially be released as a beta version, meaning users may need to manually subscribe to try out the feature, similar to previous beta versions of Apple Intelligence. In contrast, iOS 27 will reach a wider range of devices, with support extending up to the iPhone 11 series, but without taking advantage of the new Siri AI features.

Siri becomes more user-friendly

The new version of Siri relies on Apple's artificial intelligence models and can better understand the context of conversations. It also has access to information within notes, messages, emails, and photos to help execute personal requests. The core models run directly on the device, improving response speed and enhancing privacy. More complex requests are sent to Apple servers via Private Cloud Compute technology, which the company claims maintains user data privacy.

Additional benefits for the latest iPhones

Users of iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air will have a more advanced experience thanks to the running of stronger AI models directly on the device. This is expected to reflect in the new quality of sounds for Siri assistant, improved speech recognition, and increased accuracy of voice dictation.
It is also expected that future iPhone 18 Pro phones and the foldable phone about which rumors are circulating will benefit from these advanced models, while it remains uncertain whether the standard iPhone 18 will get the same capabilities.

RAM could be the decisive factor

Analyst reports indicate that Apple may increase the RAM capacity in the standard iPhone 18 to 9GB, but the company has clarified that stronger AI models running locally require at least 12GB of memory. This may limit some benefits in less equipped models.
According to initial impressions from beta versions, Siri AI seems to be one of the most useful additions of Apple Intelligence so far, showing better ability to understand commands and respond quickly and accurately compared to previous versions.
