Samsung has started to abandon the USB Type-C cable from the boxes of some of its new budget phones, after removing the cable from the packaging for both the Galaxy A07s and Galaxy A08, leaving only the phone, a quick start guide, and a SIM card tool inside.

One reviewer revealed the contents of the Galaxy A08 box, which did not include a charger or charging cable, meaning that users will need to provide these accessories separately in order to charge the phone.

Samsung had removed the power adapter from its phone boxes since the launch of the Galaxy S21, but the company kept the USB Type-C cable as part of the device’s contents, considering it the minimum necessary accessory for using and charging the phone.

Now, however, it seems that both the Galaxy A07s and Galaxy A08 are the first budget Galaxy phones to abandon the charger and cable together, while the traditional Galaxy A07 still comes with a USB Type-C cable.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A07s on September 7 in specific markets as an updated version of the Galaxy A07. It is pre-installed with Android 16 and uses the Helio G99+ processor instead of the Helio G99.

In contrast, the Galaxy A08 is Samsung’s latest budget 4G phone for 2026, starting at around $115 for a 4GB RAM version with 64GB storage, and reaching up to about $135 for a 6GB RAM version with 128GB storage.

The phone relies on the MediaTek Helio G99+ processor, along with LPDDR5X memory. It also features a 6.7-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a large 6,000 mAh battery that supports wired charging at 25 watts.

The Galaxy A08 also has an IP64 rating for dust resistance and water spray, offering a range of basic specifications within the economic category.

Although Samsung has been removing chargers from phone boxes for several years now, doing away with the charging cable as well forces users to purchase additional accessories separately.

This becomes more apparent with budget phones. Some buyers may rely on the phone as their primary device, or it may be the user’s first smart device. Therefore, the need to buy a separate cable and charger before using the phone adds an extra cost to the price of a device targeted at the lowest-cost category.
