Apple is preparing to launch a new anti-fraud protection layer with iOS 27, through a feature called Trust Insights, which aims to monitor indicators of exposure to deception during phone calls, text messages, or emails and alert the user before taking any action that could expose them to loss.

The feature relies on analyzing usage patterns and behavior in real-time, such as response speed or unusual changes in how the device is interacted with, to detect the likelihood of the user being pressured or subjected to attempts to deceive them into sending money or sharing sensitive data.

How does the new feature work?

Apple explained during the WWDC 2026 developer conference that Trust Insights works entirely on the device, without viewing the content of calls, messages, or emails. Instead, it analyzes only behavioral indicators and then deletes the data used immediately after the evaluation process is complete.

In the event that a medium to high level of fraud risk is detected, compatible applications can take preventive actions, such as displaying a warning to the user before completing a payment, imposing a short waiting period, or requesting an additional verification step before executing the transaction. The company confirmed that only one analytical value is sent to its servers and used for comparison with the normal activity of the user's account, aiming to enhance the accuracy of detecting abnormal behavior while maintaining privacy.

Five types of activities under surveillance
 

The Trust Insights service will cover five main categories of activities, including making financial payments, modifying account data, executing sensitive or resource-intensive processes, sending messages, forms, or signed documents, and a fifth category for other cases not falling under the previous classifications.

Apple will also allow users to disable the feature through settings, but it has added a waiting period before implementing this decision, to prevent fraudsters from forcing victims to stop protection during the call or conversation.

This step comes within the framework of enhancing anti-fraud measures on iPhones, providing similar protection to what is offered by Google Pixel phones, which already have technologies for detecting suspicious calls and messages locally on the device. This gives iPhone users an additional layer of security when dealing with increasing attempts at fraud.
