Apple has unveiled the new “AirPods 5” with a starting price of $129, with pre-orders available from today and in stores on September 18. The headphones come standard with active noise cancellation, which Apple says offers up to 50% more noise reduction compared to the previous generation, and claims it delivers the best noise cancellation performance for open-ear headphones. AirPods 5 provides up to 4 hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation on, and a total of 20 hours with the charging case.

Apple also revealed an upgraded version priced at $149, which is about $30 less than the previous generation. It offers up to 5 hours of listening time with noise cancellation, along with a wireless charging case that supports Apple Watch chargers and Qi chargers.

The premium version adds the ability to control volume by swiping your finger on the stem of the headphone for the first time in this design.

The headphones support direct translation, hands-free access to Siri, and adaptive audio that automatically switches between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode based on ambient noise levels. Apple also confirmed a redesign to increase water, sweat, and dust resistance, aligning with the company’s strategy of bringing premium features from higher-end AirPods models to the rest of the AirPods lineup at lower prices.
