Apple has extended the free access period to satellite features on a number of older iPhone models by an additional year, according to a small note within the press release for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Owners of compatible iPhones dating back to Apple’s iPhone 14 series launched in 2022 will benefit from these features for at least another year, including satellite SOS emergency service, satellite messaging, satellite Find My service, and satellite roadside assistance.

Apple requires that eligible devices be activated before September 9, 2026 to take advantage of the additional free usage period.

This is the third time Apple has extended the free access period for satellite features on iPhone 14 models, while the iPhone 15 series received its first extension last year following the launch of the iPhone 17 series. This marks the first such extension for iPhone 16 devices.

Apple refers to these features as a “free trial,” but has not yet disclosed subscription prices or the cost of using the services after the trial period ends.
