Amazon is Close to Launching a Official Competitor of Starlink, Says TechCrunch

Amazon is close to launching its own satellite internet service, called Amazon LEO, which will directly compete with SpaceX’s Starlink service.

Chris Weber, vice president of the LEO project at Amazon, announced that the company has so far deployed more than 390 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), a number he says is sufficient to provide continuous coverage in targeted areas during phase one.

He added that Amazon has already completed the number of launches required to start initial service this year, indicating clearly that the service could become available officially before the end of 2026.

The company also opened registration for those interested in trying out the service when it is launched.

Amazon will offer three types of receivers, including:

• Nano measuring 7 x 7 inches, with a download speed of up to 100 Mbps.
• Pro measuring 11 x 11 inches, with a download speed of up to 400 Mbps.
• Ultra measuring 20 x 30 inches, with a download speed of up to 1 Gbps.

Amazon LEO is expected to directly compete with Starlink, which is currently the world’s largest satellite internet network.
