The new RedMagic tablet device is approaching the performance of the Ryzen Z2 Extreme in gaming tests, according to TechRadar.

RedMagic has launched its globally available Astra 2 tablet designed for gaming, which competes with Lenovo’s Legion Tab Gen 5, featuring an OLED screen and a liquid cooling system that the company claims enhances performance under pressure.

The YouTuber Dame Tech tested the device by comparing it to the ROG Xbox Ally X equipped with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor. The Astra 2 demonstrated similar performance in GTA V, maintaining over 70 frames per second at 720p resolution and Very High settings.

In a test of Red Dead Redemption 2, the tablet outperformed the portable gaming device slightly, consuming only about 20 watts compared to 40 watts for the ROG Xbox Ally X. The game was played at 720p resolution and High settings.

Despite these results, the device recorded a temperature exceeding 100 degrees Celsius throughout the test, which could pose a challenge during extended gaming sessions.

It's worth noting that the games were running through an emulator on Android, not natively. This means performance could improve further if the games receive direct support for gameplay.
