Google is adding a new feature that will allow the Pixel phone to automatically unlock the Pixel Watch, according to TechRadar.

Google is working on developing a new feature that will enable the Pixel phones to automatically unlock the Pixel Watch, after it already provided the possibility of unlocking the phone using the watch through the Watch Unlock feature.

An analysis of the latest version of the Connected Phone & Watch app revealed codes indicating a new feature called Phone to Watch Unlock, which will allow the automatic unlocking of the Pixel Watch as soon as the associated Pixel phone is unlocked.

The information indicates that the feature will be exclusive to devices combining a Pixel phone and a Pixel Watch, and it won't work with devices from other companies.

Thanks to this feature, users won't have to enter their PIN or pattern every time they want to use the watch; unlocking the phone is enough for the watch to unlock automatically.

Google may also display proactive notifications when the feature becomes available, such as:

Activating the feature requires a one-time setup, where the user will be asked to enter the PIN or pattern of the watch via the phone to allow the creation of a trusted relationship between the two devices.

In case the watch is replaced with a new one, this trusted relationship will automatically be transferred to the new Pixel Watch without having to go through the entire setup steps again.

Google has not yet revealed the official launch date of the feature, but expectations suggest that it could be announced simultaneously with the unveiling of the Pixel Watch 5, scheduled for August 12.
