Google has announced the expansion of AI Mode's capabilities through new integrations with YouTube Music, Canva, and Instacart, in a move aimed at transforming the AI-powered search experience from simply answering questions to performing practical tasks within external applications and services.

The new feature allows users, after linking their accounts to supported services, to execute commands directly through AI Mode without needing to switch between apps.

The addition of YouTube Music is the most prominent update, enabling users to create music playlists based on text commands. AI Mode uses YouTube Music to generate suggestions for appropriate songs, displaying the status of execution with the message "Asking YouTube Music," before showing a list of songs within an interactive card that can be saved or played directly through the app.

Google has also added support for Canva, allowing users to access suitable design templates based on their requests, such as creating posters, posts, or promotional materials, without leaving the AI Mode interface.

In the realm of shopping, AI Mode now supports Instacart, where users can automatically create shopping lists when planning meals or events, and then send ingredients directly to the Instacart shopping cart for later purchase.

This expansion comes after Google earlier added support for Gmail and Google Photos services, before expanding the integration to include Google Drive and Google Calendar, allowing AI to leverage user data to provide more personalized responses, along with creating new appointments and adding them directly to the calendar.

Google confirmed that users will retain full control over AI-related services, as connected apps can be managed through AI Mode settings and specify which services are allowed to interact with the experience.

The company believes these additions represent a new step in developing AI Mode into a platform capable of performing daily tasks across multiple applications, bringing it closer to the Connected Apps experience available in the Gemini system, which relies on connecting Google services with an increasing number of external apps.

Google explained that the new features are gradually reaching users in the United States this week, with plans to add more apps and partners in the coming period.
