Samsung’s Galaxy S27 series will not mimic Apple’s upcoming feature, according to leaks from TechRadar.

Reports in May indicated that the anticipated Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra might include a 200-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture lens.

It was confirmed that such a move would be influenced by rumors suggesting that iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will feature a main camera with a variable aperture lens.

However, according to a new report from Korea, Samsung ultimately decided not to use a main camera with a variable aperture lens in any of the phones within the Galaxy S27 series.

The higher manufacturing costs appear to be behind this decision, along with the fact that using a variable aperture lens would make the camera bump thicker.

The company concluded that the practical benefits of this feature do not justify the additional cost for smartphone cameras, especially given that phone manufacturers are currently facing significant increases in DRAM memory costs.

Samsung had already used variable aperture lens technology with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10 in 2018 and 2019, but the feature did not continue in subsequent generations of the company’s phones.
