Philips has been on a roll lately, launching new monitors one after the other. The company recently launched the 27E2N6900QW monitor, a 4K monitor with a 120Hz refresh rate built around the Penta Tandem QD-OLED panel with a peak brightness of 1000 nits. It also released the Evnia 32M2N6901A, a 32-inch 4K QD-OLED monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate and an RGB Q-Stripe layout designed to improve text clarity. Now, the company is back with its third release: the 27M2N5500X gaming monitor, which combines a 27-inch screen with a 1440p resolution and a 425Hz refresh rate.

The 27M2N5500X is currently available for purchase at $280. It features a 2560x1440 resolution on a Fast IPS panel with an original speed of 400Hz and overclocking up to 425Hz. To help compensate for this speed, Philips equipped it with a claimed 1ms gray-to-gray response time and a 0.3ms MPRT rating to reduce motion blur.

The monitor supports the usual variable refresh rate technology such as G-Sync compatibility to prevent screen tearing during fast gaming. Philips also added a feature called Zero-Sense Sync Acceleration, designed to reduce input lag between the graphics card and the monitor.

In terms of color, the 27M2N5500X screen has a 10-bit depth and covers 100% of the sRGB range and 97% of the DCI-P3 range. Philips says each panel is factory calibrated to Delta E less than 2. Brightness is slightly better than average at 350 nits with a typical contrast ratio of 1,000:1. It has a basic DisplayHDR 400 certification which is a less impressive specification compared to the higher HDR certifications in some other modern Philips displays.

Philips also includes a few gaming-oriented software tools including an AI-powered beacon that changes its colors based on the background and a digital zoom tool called Sniper Window. Additionally, it has a shadow enhancement feature that illuminates darker areas of the screen. The monitor offers circular polarization and low blue light filter for daily use which may help reduce eye strain.

The monitor is compatible with standard VESA 100 x 100mm mounts and provides height adjustment of up to 130mm, along with tilt, swivel, and pivot. Connectivity options include one DisplayPort 1.4 port, two HDMI 2.1 ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also supports Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture for anyone running multiple inputs at once.
