After months of anticipation, Apple finally unveiled its first-ever foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. The device features a book-like design with two screens that can be used when the device is open or folded partially. However, the new phone has already faced criticism from an unexpected group of users: millions of left-handed people around the world.

On the platform “X”, left-handed users complained that the phone’s design seems biased towards right-handed use. They noticed that key controls appear on the right side of the device when it is opened, including lock screen controls, the app bar on the home screen, and some navigation tools within apps.

One user said they loved the phone’s design but found it impractical for them as a lefty. Another saw the placement of the controls on this side as making key functions out of reach for their hand. A third user mocked the design, saying Apple seemed to “hate lefties”.

Criticism also extended to Reddit, where users wondered if it would be possible to move the control elements or charging base to the other side, arguing that this option would make the phone more suitable for lefties.

According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, these criticisms come despite the fact that iPhone Duo was designed to work in multiple modes, as it can be used fully open, or left partially open to watch content without holding it, and also can be used partially folded like a book.

The price of the phone is $1999, and comes with an external screen measuring 5.4 inches, and another internal one measuring 7.6 inches, with a ratio of width to height of 1.4 for each. It also works on the A20 Pro chip, supports multitasking and running different applications on both sides of the screen, in addition to supporting Apple Pencil for the first time on an iPhone.

The phone includes a rear camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels, similar to that found in the iPhone 18 Pro.

As Apple prepares to launch iPhone Duo next month, the question remains: did the company ignore the needs of a large segment of its users when it designed the phone around a right-handed user experience?
