Human exploration of outer space began in April 1961 with the pioneering flight of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, and several countries are now planning to send humans back to the Moon, then to Mars, and perhaps beyond. But will this endeavor be hindered by the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced humanoid robots?

According to “space,” this was discussed at the “Humans to Titan” summit, a first-of-its-kind event that brought together experts seeking to send astronauts to Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. It is an intriguing and noteworthy destination in space.

Titan has a thick atmosphere and is a unique world composed of clouds, rain, rivers, lakes, and seas of liquid hydrocarbons such as methane and ethane. But will humans ever set foot on Titan, or will advanced AI-powered robots take the journey?

Pascal Lee, President of the Mars Institute and a planetary scientist at SETI Institute, and NASA’s Hoton-Mars project manager at NASA Ames Research Center, described “Humans to Titan” as both exciting and absurd.

“The absurd side is that reaching Titan is a long-term goal in an era when technology is advancing so rapidly. But it must be done; it is worth doing because it gives us some guidance,” Lee said.

Lee sees a human journey to Titan taking decades, and this is not surprising, adding "In the meantime, there's a revolution happening on Earth", namely the emergence of human-like robots equipped with artificial intelligence, innovations that are evolving and maturing at a relatively rapid pace.
