Samsung teased a new technology called Flex Titanium, which will be one of the most prominent innovations in the next generation of Galaxy foldable phones, with promises to improve screen durability, reduce device thickness, and minimize the visible bend in the middle.

This technology comes after the adoption of the Galaxy Z Fold7 on the third generation of Armor FlexHinge, which became 27% thinner and 43% lighter than the previous generation.

Flex Titanium relies on two main layers: The first is a membrane made from an ultra-thin titanium alloy that is only one-third the thickness of a human hair but is 20 times stronger than the polymer layers used in some previous designs. The second is a flexible titanium panel that provides additional support to the screen and gives it a flatter surface while maintaining its flexibility when folded.

Samsung explained that engineers have succeeded in reducing the gaps between the screen and the supporting panel, which enhanced the cohesion of components and contributed to increasing the screen's resistance to shocks and enduring repeated folding processes.

Kyung-Jin Yoo, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Display Product Development at Samsung Display, confirmed that the company used a new design with precise openings inside the titanium panel to achieve a balance between flexibility and durability, along with new organic materials that help improve energy efficiency.

Samsung added that the development of Flex Titanium came as a result of its experience gained through seven generations of Galaxy Fold phones, with an emphasis on meeting the most prominent demands of users, such as reducing thickness and increasing durability while improving the user experience.

The company is expected to officially unveil this technology during the Galaxy Unpacked event in London next week, which carries the slogan “A New Shape Unfolds,” referring to the introduction of a new design for its foldable phones.
