The experts noted that the new technology will reshape the global economy on a scale far broader than the Industrial Revolution but in a much shorter time frame; while steam power, electricity, and traditional computing gave societies decades to adapt, AI may only give us a few years to prepare. Rather than calling for slowing down the pace of technological development, the group advocates for crafting policies and incentives that ensure these tools complement human workers rather than completely replacing them.

The document gathered signatures from some of the most influential figures in the world of finance and technology; among the signatories are former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, OpenAI's CFO Sarah Friar, Google AI head Jeff Dean, and Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark.
