Microsoft’s New Surface Devices Disappoint Individual Users – TechWiser

Since mid-2024, Microsoft has relied on Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors in its Surface devices aimed at individual users. However, the experience hasn't been perfect due to compatibility issues with Windows on ARM applications and lack of support for some peripherals, leading some users to return their devices.

In contrast, the company provided business versions equipped with Intel processors, which generally offered better performance, along with additional options like 5G support in the Surface Pro device.

With the launch of the second generation of Snapdragon X processors, Microsoft continued its approach. Consumer versions were limited to ARM processors, while business customers could choose between Qualcomm or Intel Panther Lake processors.

The difference is more pronounced in the Surface Laptop. Business versions equipped with Intel Core Ultra X processors receive the stronger Arc B390 graphics processor, which gives them better performance in graphics and gaming compared to Snapdragon versions.

Critics argue that this policy deprives individual users from accessing the stronger versions, especially since business versions are sold at high prices and rarely get discounts. In contrast, Snapdragon versions' prices drop quickly, making Intel options less attractive despite their superior performance.
