The US government has lifted restrictions on the availability of Anthropic's AI model "Fable 5," allowing it to be made available more widely to users around the world. This comes after the company reached agreements with American authorities regarding security and safety requirements.

Bloomberg reported that the US Department of Commerce has removed the restrictions it imposed on June 12, which required the company to obtain prior approval before making its "Mythos 5" and "Fable 5" models available to any non-US citizen, regardless of their location. This was due to national security concerns.

Anthropic announced via a post on X that it had received an official notification from the Department of Commerce lifting the restrictions on the two models. Earlier, some restrictions on "Mythos 5" were relaxed.

The company confirmed that it has reactivated "Fable 5" after providing it with new classification mechanisms aimed at limiting its use in tasks related to cybersecurity. It noted that it is working with Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and other partners to develop standards for enhancing the security of AI models and detecting electronic vulnerabilities.

She added that the model will be available to users worldwide through its platforms starting today, Wednesday. It will also be gradually made available via cloud computing services from Amazon, Google and Microsoft. Meanwhile, the "Mythos 5" model has been made available to a number of American institutions, with plans to expand access later.

"Anthropic" expressed hope that its collaboration with the US government and partners would contribute to establishing a permanent and transparent regulatory framework for developing and launching advanced AI models, which would be applied equally to all companies in the sector.

US restrictions on "Anthropic's" models have sparked widespread debate within the artificial intelligence sector. They are the first wide-scale use of export controls to regulate access to advanced AI models. Their impact has been felt by competing companies, including "OpenAI," which delayed the wide launch of one of its new models in response to US government demands.

"Anthropic," developer of the chatbot "Claude," is one of the world's largest private artificial intelligence companies. Last June, it secretly filed for an initial public offering (IPO), amid reports that it was considering a public offering in the coming months.
