SAN DIEGO, June 29 (WAM) - The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (ADHS), and Eli Lilly Drugstore LLC, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in developing treatments for obesity and Alzheimer’s disease through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and advanced clinical care. They will also explore creating an innovative healthcare model for obesity treatment and a global excellence center for Alzheimer’s disease.

The MoU was signed during the 2026 World Congress on Innovation in Biotechnology, held in San Diego, USA.

Under the MoU, both parties will explore opportunities to create an AI-supported healthcare model for obesity treatment that aims to provide advanced, predictive and personalized metabolic care tailored to the needs of the Abu Dhabi community. They will also explore opportunities to establish a global excellence center for Alzheimer’s disease with the goal of accelerating early detection, enhancing biomarker-based diagnosis, and expanding access to the latest disease-modifying treatments.

The cooperation will focus on two main strategic tracks. The first is the formation of a joint working group to design and develop an AI-supported model for obesity and metabolic diseases, tailored to the needs of Abu Dhabi's population, utilizing the emirate's population health data and "Lilly"’s therapeutic expertise in metabolic diseases to support the development of advanced risk classification models and personalized treatment interventions.

The second track involves studying the establishment of a center of excellence for Alzheimer's disease, building on the existing collaboration between the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and "Lilly" in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. This will contribute to enhancing early detection of the disease, expanding the scope of integrated digital cognitive screening, and developing care pathways across the full spectrum of Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Amana Ibrahim Al-Manai, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, emphasized that Abu Dhabi has successfully built one of the most advanced health systems in the world in the field of precision medicine, based on large-scale genomic programs at the population level, advanced health data, and established clinical excellence. She noted that cooperation with "Lilly" enhances the ability to leverage these capabilities to develop more personalized approaches to obesity and Alzheimer’s disease, contributing to improved health outcomes for patients within and outside the emirate.

For her part, Lina Aziz, the Chief Corporate and Government Affairs Officer at Lily Gulf, said that the partnership with ADHealth reflects a harmony between the Emirate’s vision for the smart life sciences ecosystem and Lily’s mission to harness scientific research and human care. She noted that the collaboration aims to develop an advanced care model that combines artificial intelligence (AI) with population health data and clinical care to tackle obesity and Alzheimer's disease.

She emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the UAE’s ambitions in building a more predictive, personalized, and innovative healthcare system, which will have a tangible impact on patients' lives and communities.
