TikTok and Teen Appetite: A Study Uncovers a Strange Link

TikTok and Teen Appetite: A Study Uncovers a Strange Link

According to a study published in the scientific journal “Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior”, watching videos on TikTok stimulates the appetite of teenagers and raises their interest in trying new types of food.

The researcher from the University of Minnesota, Adriana Bell, stated that “teenagers describe TikTok as an extremely attractive environment, where food videos quickly capture their attention and trigger their desire to try new food items.”

The study emphasizes that parents can protect teenagers from the risks of these applications by monitoring the content their children watch and how this content affects their behaviors.

The study included a group of volunteers in their teenage years, aged between 15 and 16, from a high school in the American Midwest.

The volunteers in the experiment revealed that they watch a large number of videos featuring restaurant reviews, food recipes, as well as tips and advertisements for daily meals. They confirmed that these videos stimulate their appetite for certain foods.

Regarding online influencers, some teenagers in the study mentioned that they might be inclined to eat certain foods if the influencer presenting them is attractive.

The website Health Day, which specializes in medical research, quoted بيل as saying that “parents play an important role in preventing exposure to food videos and opening critical discussions with children about this content.”
