Google has announced the free availability of its emoticons, Noto Emoji 3D. This will allow developers and designers around the world to use its 3D emojis in their various projects. The announcement comes on World Emoji Day, aiming to expand the use of these designs and support innovation in digital applications.

The company confirmed that it will provide the original emoji files in OBJ format, which is one of the most commonly used formats for 3D model design. This allows easy integration into virtual reality applications, games, and independent projects, as well as use in creative content production and memes.

Google’s announcement did not only provide access to the files but also showcased a part of the journey of designing 3D emojis. It explained that converting emojis from flat graphics into 3D models requires precise design decisions, such as determining the shape of the expressive face and whether it will be a full sphere, mask, or flat disk.
