The interim CEO of Bluesky is now its permanent CEO, after Jay Graber stepped down as the executive director of the open-source decentralized social media platform in March this year. Tony Schneider took on the role on an interim basis; he was a consultant and investor in Bluesky. Now, he has announced that after four months of serving as interim CEO, he is now the official head of the social media app.

According to Engadget, Schneider wrote in his post: “I took this job because I believe in our mission, which is to develop and drive adoption of technologies at scale for an open, public, decentralized conversation.” He added, “It’s a great honor to help advance that mission and be part of the larger movement toward an open social network.

Details on the development of the Bluesky platform in the coming period

Schneider was the founding CEO of WordPress parent company Automattic, where Graber, who had been CEO of Bluesky since 2021, wrote when she resigned that "the company needs an experienced operator focused on scale and execution as it grows, while it returns to what it does best, which is building new things."
She said Schneider would be the "experienced operator and leader", where Graber will work as CEO of innovation at Bluesky, and Schneider continued in his post: "We are at the beginning of this story", confirming "next: the ability to create smaller spaces and more private communities, which I think will unleash the next wave of growth and innovation."
Bluesky announced that Reddit-style communities would come to the platform this year, allowing users to create groups for specific interests and topics.
