A number of senior Sony executives sold a portion of their shares in the company, days after PlayStation announced that it would stop releasing new games on discs starting in January 2028, a move that has sparked widespread criticism among gamers.

Reports earlier revealed that Sony CEO Hironori Totoki sold more than half his stake in the company, offloading 225,000 shares just two days after the announcement, in a deal worth around $4.73 million.

It wasn’t just Totoki; several other executives also sold portions of their shares during the same period, including Toshimitsu Mitomo, Sony's Chief Strategy Officer, who sold 25,000 shares valued at nearly $525,000.

The CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Ravi Ahuja, also sold around 36,826 shares worth an estimated $776,000, while the CEO of Sony Music Publishing, John Platt, sold 16,512 shares valued at nearly $349,000.

While Totoki’s deal was the largest among all the announced transactions, the fact that several executives sold their shares after announcing the end of physical game releases has caught the attention of both investors and gamers alike.

Meanwhile, many PlayStation fans still hope that Sony will reverse its decision and continue to support physical versions. However, reports indicate that the company is moving forward with its plan for a full transition to digital distribution, which it has been working on for some time.
