WhatsApp is testing a new green indicator to show connected contacts on iOS, according to TechCrunch.

WhatsApp has started testing a new green indicator on iOS that allows users to know in real-time if a contact is online, following the launch of the same feature for Android last month.

The website WABetaInfo discovered the new feature in WhatsApp version 26.26.10.72 for iOS.

After installing the latest beta version, eligible users will see a small green circle on the lower right of the contact image when they open the “Contact Info” page if the contact is online.

The indicator works in real-time and disappears automatically once the contact goes offline.

The report indicated that WhatsApp currently displays the indicator only on the “Contact Info” page, which can be accessed by tapping on a contact image, without showing it in the Chats list or tab.

The new indicator also relies on the same privacy settings for "Last Seen" and "Online Now," so if a user chooses to hide their status from others, the green indicator will not appear either.

The feature is currently available only to a limited number of beta users on both Android and iOS, while WhatsApp has not yet revealed when it will be rolled out to all users.
