YouTube continues to enhance its AI-based services, having launched a new feature called “Ask YouTube” for users in the United States. This allows users to search for videos by describing the idea or situation they are looking for, rather than relying solely on traditional keywords.

What is the advantage of "Ask YouTube"?

The new feature relies on natural language understanding. Users can write a complete question such as how to learn a certain skill or search for activities suitable for children, and AI will analyze the request and search within YouTube’s library, which includes millions of long and short videos. The results are then displayed in an organized and easy-to-navigate format.

The service does not just provide a list of videos; it also displays a summary of the answer, recommends the most relevant video, and offers a selection of other videos categorized under different topics. Users can ask follow-up questions to obtain more accurate results, making the search experience closer to a conversation with an intelligent assistant.

YouTube makes content easier to access

YouTube aims to make it easier to access content, especially in cases where users do not know the name of the video or channel but are looking for a specific idea or situation. The new results page design differs from the traditional one by providing additional context about why each video is recommended, which helps users find the right content faster.

The feature was first introduced during the Google I/O 2026 conference, and it has now been made available to YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States who are over 18 years old on a trial basis. The company is now expanding its availability to regular users through the web version.

Neil Mohan, CEO of YouTube, confirmed that the feature will be rolled out gradually during this period within the US. The company has not yet disclosed when it will become available on mobile apps or if there are plans to expand it to other markets. It mentioned that it will continue to develop the service based on user feedback to improve the search and content discovery experience on the platform.
